The Loki Schmidt Garden is a botanical garden maintained by the University of Hamburg. For decades, it has invited visitors to immerse themselves in nature, take a deep breath and discover the world of plants. A new look is intended to make the garden exciting again for visitors and information seekers.
A botanical garden thrives on dynamism. It grows and changes constantly, giving the feeling of freedom and arriving at home at the same time. You can enjoy the peace, switch off and relax.
New logo for the botanical garden
Several overlapping flowers form the posters
The soft flower shape gives the garden a warmth and friendliness that attracts visitors.Since the grounds of the botanical garden extend over a wide area across two locations, it is important to create a clear structure. For this purpose, sub-logos are used for the individual areas. The shape of the logo is slightly modified and the colors are bright and colorful, conveying freshness and lightness.

The content areas are highlighted by their own sub-logos

Advertising and information posters offer the flagship of the garden. The advertising posters are intended to attract visitors. The two worlds - city and garden - are represented by photographs and connected by means of the flower. The information posters announce details of events. The overlapping cut flower shapes combined with typography create an expressive change. On the other advertising materials, simple line graphics provide subtle accents to complement the text and surfaces.
A new orientation system makes it easier to explore the garden. In addition to the existing signage, we are introducing floor markings that highlight rest areas, activities and special views. Visitors can move through the grounds in a relaxed manner and are taken by the hand by the guidance system. In order to get an overview of the plants currently worth seeing, we have included a virtual tour on the new website. There, a constantly changing selection of plants is described and a piece of the garden is brought home.
